This deliverable provides an analysis of the manner in which female citizens in Turkey enact themselves as European citizens. While neither formal citizens of the European Union (EU) nor residents of the EU member countries, women in Turkey act as European citizens through: (1) moments at which women in Turkey demand extended rights from the state by referring to the rights that exist within the EU; (2) moments at which they demand and claim citizenship rights on European platforms; (3) moments at which these demands and enactments in question, challenge, and aim to transform European citizenship and project. The deliverable examines the innovative ways in which the women of Turkey (like citizens of Kurdish origin and non-Muslim citizens of Turkish Republic) act on a status which they do not hold, namely European citizenship, and demand rights associated with being European. It examines not only those acts that the groups themselves explicitly designate as European citizenship or Europeanness, but also acts that we interpret and theorize as acts of European citizenship and Europeanness.
